Celebrating North-East 2019 is an annual two-day mega cultural event organized by the North East Institute of Fashion Technology (NEIFT) with the support of the Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Tourism.
It’s quite a unique platform to showcase North-Eastern culture. They exhibited the finest collection of textiles, handlooms, handicrafts, jewelry and so many other things related to northeast culture. The two-day mega cultural event was all about the Exhibition, Fashion Shows, Music, Food and Cuisine, Folk dances and Live Concerts.
The Event was inaugurated was Usha Mangeshkar, Tej Hazarika, and Rima Das. They also paid their respects and tribute to the son of the soil, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika as they hosted a pavilion dedicated to his photographs, documentaries about his life and achievements along with his memorable songs playing for our visitors.
Eight designers including Nandini, Pankhi, Arita, Parineta, Pallavi, Jyoti Kashmiri, and Robert Naorem displayed their sustainable clothing collections. “We have 32 models walking the ramp, from mainstream models Noinika Chatterjee and Sonalika Sahay to regional models, who participated in Femina Miss India over the years, and even international models. Through them, we want to highlight sustainable textiles of the Northeast and their huge demand. Even our golden thread Muga is used in Japan’s traditional dresses.” said Vikram Rai Medhi.
Singer Zubeen Garg, new singer-actor Deeplina Dekka, Joi Barua the voice behind Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani songs performed live at the event and the audience just loved it. Further entertainment included folk dance performances like Bihu dance and a local cuisine corner, where people can enjoy food and interact with local chefs and performers.
