It’s impossible to go a day without referring the Friends phrases. ‘How you doing?’ ‘Unagi,’ ‘I know,’ and heaps of heaps of other expressions.
But there is one highly debated phrase- ‘We were on a break.’ What’s the story behind it? And why is Ross, aka David Schwimmer still explaining it?
We were on a Break!
‘We were on a break’ is a classic recurring line by Ross Geller. (Spoiler Ahead!)
Ross and Rachel are the endgames of the show. Their relationship is one of the central plotlines of Friends. You will see their on-off romance throughout ten seasons.
The story behind the catchphrase goes like this. In one of the episodes, there was an argument between Rachel and Ross. Rachel thought it’s better to take a ‘break.’ Sad Ross drank all night. He called Rachel to reconsider their relationship, and mistakenly thought Rachel was seeing her co-worker. And the next morning, he woke up beside a girl. It was a one-night-stand.
The two-decade-old debate whether they were on a break or not continues. Rekindling it, David Schwimmer revealed his side on the argument in the interview with Jimmy Fallon.
“Yeah, it’s not even a question. They were on a break,” David asserted.
