Students of Aligarh Muslim University are being threatened on religious grounds. A Hindu student of AMU lodged a police complaint against her fellow student on July 13, 2020. The female student of the engineering department alleged that the student had threatened her and passed uncivilized comments on social media.

On her Facebook post, she shared how the girls in AMU are forced to cover themselves in veils of ‘Hijab.’ The fellow student commented that he would force her to wear a ‘brass hijab.’ Later, he texted her to stop playing the ‘victim card’; otherwise, he would file a complaint against her for passing derogatory remarks on AMU.

She also claimed that he is the part of a group that has been targeting her since anti CAA protests broke out in AMU.

The offenders even made fun of her by saying that they were not stopping her from roaming around nude in AMU hostel if she wished.

Shafey Kidwai, the AMU spokesman, said the university has set up a probe panel to look into the matter.

However, this is just one example. Many AMU students have been caught making such objectionable comments or hounding fellow students on a religious basis.

The AMU students have told that the Muslim students are taking revenge against the Hindu students who had supported CAA and NRC. According to them, those who had created a ruckus during the anti-CAA protests are now intimidating fellow Hindu students. The District Administration had taken action against them for inciting people against the CAA bill.

More recently, two AMU students shared anti-India posts on their social media in which they asserted Pakistan as their own country. They also desired Kashmir to become a part of Pakistan. A case was registered against them at the Atrauli police station, Aligarh.

The students are calling them ‘Hinduphobes,’ having negative perceptions against the Hindus.

Other cases where Hindu students were intimidated by Muslim students

In May, a student filed a complaint against an AMU student for abusing him and sending death threats to him through social media. He had scared the complainer of awful consequences when he returned to AMU post lockdown.

In another case, a Hindu Professor in AMU was verbally attacked by some AMU Hinduphobes. She has disconnected herself from social media owing to constant threats and intimidation.

Dr. Nishit Sharma, the AMU alumnus, lodged a police complaint against university students for their alleged role in running a nasty campaign on social media. As per Dr. Nishit, the Islamic students were posting against the Hindus living in the Gulf countries.

A former AMU student Rajeshwar Singh expressed his agony and said that this was normal for  Hinduphobes at AMU to suppress the Hindu students. He further added, “Whenever we tried to put forward our opinion, we were made to shut up. Whenever we expressed our views, we were either called traitors or ‘namak haram” or ‘ehsaan faramosh.”
