PM Modi gifted Manipur Water Supply Project to Women as Raksha Bandhan’s Gift


The center has provided funds under Jal Jeevan Mission to Manipur for freshwater household tap connections (FHTCs), which will be covering habitations around 1,42,749 households.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that on 23rd July 2020, he would be laying down the foundation stone for the Manipur water supply Project through video conferencing.

This Manipur Water Supply Project, an externally funded project, was designed to provide Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) to remaining households in the Greater Imphal Planning area. Including 25 towns and for about 1,731 rural habitations covering about 2,80,756 households in 16 different districts of Manipur.

This project is an essential component of the efforts of the state government to achieve the goal of trading ‘Har Ghar Jal’ by the year 2024. The outlay of this project is about Rs 3054.58 crores with a loan component funded by the New Development Bank.

The plan of Jal Jeevan Mission has been initiated by the Central Government to provide a safe and adequate quantity of drinking water to every rural household of the country by the year 2024.

This program also implements some sustainability measures as mandatory elements, which include the moto of recharge and reuse with the ideas of greywater management, water conservation, and rainwater harvesting.

Tourism potential of Northeast, also including the Manipur region, is still unexplored. And that connectivity in Manipur is essential, not for the ease of living but also for achieving the goal for a safe and self-reliant India. Making Prosperity and progress linking directly to connectivity, says PM Modi.

Looking at the recent events, Prime Minister expressed his sympathies to all those who were affected by the floods along with the challenges of the ongoing Pandemic.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region Jitendra Singh, Jal Skakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Manipur Governor Najma Akbar Ali Heptulla, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also attended this event unfold through the video conferencing.
