Nepometer, as the name suggests, is an app that will measure the percentage of nepotism in a film. The debate on nepotism and favoritism in Bollywood has taken an ugly turn with the sad demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput. On June 14, Sushant Singh Rajput hanged himself.

Arguments over nepotism have been surfacing all over the Internet. And the entire Bollywood fraternity has been shaken. Sushant’s death has raised some serious questions about arbitrary hierarchies in Bollywood.

Sushant made it to Bollywood without any favoritism. Sadly, the self-made actor couldn’t survive the feudalism in Bollywood. This is the story of every other self-made actor in the entertainment industry.


The voices against nepotism and favoritism are getting louder and louder. To stop the evils of nepotism, Sushant’s family has reportedly launched an app called Nepometer.


What is Nepometer?


Nepometer will rate movies based on whether it has people from the filmy background or the people who have no connections in the industry. The move is taken by Sushant’s family to expose the foul play in the film industry.

The Nepometer webpage was launched on June 25. Vishal Kirti, Sushant’s brother in law, informed the public about the app in his tweet. It is devised by Mayuresh Krishna, an architect at VMware and the brother of Vishal.

“If the Nepometer is high, then it’s time to boycott Bollywood nepotism,” makers of the app said. They further told, “the goal of this app is to provide you with a percentage meter of how nepotistic or upcoming independent movies are and send you a notification to watch the more independent film. “

The app rates Sadak 2 as 98% Nepotistic.


How does Nepometer work?


Nepometer will calculate the amount of nepotism in the movie based on five categories- producer, director, writer, lead actors, and supporting actors. And depending upon the results, the audience who is against favoritism can boycott the movie.The official handle of the Nepometer shared its first results with the public.


Sadak 2 is the sequel of the hit movie Sadak (1991) directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Sadak 2 features Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, and Pooja Bhatt in the lead roles. Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt are the main actors of Sadak (1991).


Owing to the coronavirus crisis, the makers of Sadak 2 have decided to launch the movie on the OTT platform. The poster of Sadak 2 is out, and it will be premiered on Disney plus Hotstar.

Sadak 2 marks the comeback of the Bhatt brother pair. Mukesh Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt are the producer and directors, respectively. Mahesh Bhatt is also the writer of the film. The female actors Alia Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt are the daughters of Mahesh Bhatt.


Sanjay Dutt is a star kid. He is the son of a well-known actor late Sunil Dutt and gorgeous actress late Nargis. As for actor Aditya Roy Kapoor, he is the youngest brother of film producer Siddharth Roy Kapoor and actor Kunaal Roy Kapoor.

Nepometer did not rate Sadak 2 100% nepotistic because of its supporting actors. Gulshan Grover, Jisshu Sengupta, and Makarand Deshpande are the supporting actors in the film who do not have any film family connection.


Amid the ongoing dispute over nepotism, Sadak 2 is also facing controversy for its poster. A complaint was filed in Bihar against the brothers Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt, along with Alia Bhatt. They have been accused of hurting the sentiments of Hindus through Sadak 2 poster.

The complainant Acharya Chandra Kishore Parashar finds objection with the use of the image of Kailash Mansarovar in the Sadak 2 poster. The Chief Judicial Magistrate Mukesh Kumar set July 8 as the date of hearing in the case. The filmmakers Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt and actor Alia Bhatt have been booked under IPC sections 295A (deliberately outraging religious feelings) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
