This pilot project will come into effect in the next few days and apply to tourists who make e-booking for a three-day stay in hotels or homestays.
“Tourists will be given discount coupons while registering themselves on the government portal under the tourist category. They will then be able to utilize the coupon during their stay in a hotel or homestay in the state’s tourist spots,” said Satpal Maharaj.
This decision with the voucher scheme was made at a cabinet meeting on Friday. The government also resolved to refund tourists who made bookings at Jim Corbett Tiger reserve, which is still closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Uttrakhand draws a significant amount of revenue from tourists. This stimulus is similar to some of the creative measures other tourism-dependent economies have rolled out to pull travelers to the state. Sicily also offered to fund part of your travel. Whereas, Cancún in Mexico has been offering free stays. And the city of London was also giving deep discounts to diners to revive the restaurant industry.
