Directed by David Yates (director of Harry Potter series), Fantastic Beast 3 started shooting in March 2020 but shut downed immediately owing to the coronavirus breakdown.

There are also many controversies surfacing over Fantastic Beast 3.

By the time Fantastic Beast 1 released in 2016, Johnny Depp was already at the center of attention. Her ex-wife Amber Heard accused him of verbal and physical abuse. Johnny has recently settled his divorce with her.

His reputation has been injured severely. Tensions started to arise when the casting of Johnny Depp in Fantastic Beast 3 was announced. Fans have been taking sides in Depp/Heard dispute.

They are concerned that an actor who has been accused of domestic violence would be a part of such an esteemed series. This might jeopardize the overall image of Warner Bros. Production (producers of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beast).

J.K Rowling’s Anti Trans Comments

The author of the movie, J.K Rowling, is herself in the middle of bad publicity. She expressed her views on “people who menstruate,” which sparked criticism. Twitter users have regarded those comments as transphobic (disliking transgender people).

The tweet has hurt the sentiments of the transgender community as, since trans men, non-binary people, and gender non-conforming can also menstruate. They also pointed out that identifying menstruation with womankind wipes out the experiences of women who don’t menstruate, which can be credited to menopause or health conditions like endometriosis.

Her doubled down tweet with a thread also received backlash from fans, transgender activists, and organizations such as GLAAD.

Net citizens have started calling her TERF (Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist), gender critical feminists. Many actors from the Harry Potter and the Fantastic Beasts have shown disagreement on J.K Rowling’s comments.

Eddie Redmayne, the main lead of Fantastic Beasts, said, “… I disagree with Jo’s comments. Trans women are women, trans men are men, and non-binary identities are valid…”.

Emma Watson, Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series, condemned J.K Rowling’s comments.

Harry Potter stars Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter), and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) have also criticized her tweets.

This is not the first time that J.K Rowling has been in media for commenting on the transgender community. In December 2019, she supported Maya Forstater, a researcher and a tax expert, who said that transgender women cannot change their biological sex. Her comments were termed as “offensive.”

Ezra Miller’s Video controversy

Ezra Miller (Credence Barebone in the Fantastic Beasts) is another member involved in a controversy. A video of him physically assaulting an unknown woman went viral in April.

Ezra Miller choked a woman outside a bar in Iceland. In the video, he asked the woman, “Oh, you wanna fight? That’s what you wanna do”. The girl was jokingly smiling. And in the next moment, Ezra grabbed her throat and threw her to the ground. The owner of the bar said that it was a severe incident.

Bad conduct in a public setting is turning out to be a major nightmare for his publicity. Ezra’s character plays a central role in the Fantastic Beasts movie. He is also playing Barry Allen in the film version of D.C. Comics’ ‘The Flash.’
The Warner Bros. production film The Flash is set to be released in 2022. But fans of D.C. universe has asked them to remove Ezra Miller from the role.
